Its been ahwhile since my last blog..We have been extremly busy with work and finding the time to type is sometimes a challenge. If only all problems were that good!  

In this post like to take the time to remind all our friends, family and loyal clients to keep an eye on the perimeter of your home this time of year! 

Look for fresh gnawing's from rodents or newly damaged soffit screens and crawlspace vent screens.

When rodents and other small mammals are faced with the option of freezing to death or creating an entry into a warmer enviroment, your home and buildings become a target. A quick check every few weeks to the soffits and foundation can help you avoid any costly damages.

Wow! call volume has been steady and many animals are giving birth or have already given birth throughout the state leading to a huge boom in animal removal requests form our valued clients. We appreciate everyone's patients during these times especially those that are having to wait more than a week for initial service. Based on the numbers of animals that survived our mild winter these past few years we are also in for a huge fall season this year as well! try to remember to keep those bird feeders cleaned up well and frequently check your vent screens and crawl access doors to make sure your crawl space is being occupied by an unwelcome house guest! Our busiest time of year is almost upon us. Raccoons will soon be producing kits at an alarming rate throughout western Washington. We have already had reports of raccoons breaking into crawlspaces and nest down. The squirrels have also been nesting up over the last few weeks causing a lot of squirrel related calls as well. Its hard to ignore the sounds of a wild raccoon and other animal trying to claw its way thru your drywall.

We have been very busy at Animal Evictor since my last post about two months ago with everything from raccoons, opossums, birds, bats, skunks, beavers and much more. Those cute little raccoon kits are growing up fast and becoming just as ill tempered as there parents, Most young starlings have flown out of there nests by now, most opossums have ventured away from there moms as well and Temperatures are soring in our attics helping clear them of our unwanted tenants.

This time of year is interesting for us to say the least. just a couple months back we were able to remove raccoon babies by hand with no problems,  some of those kits are now big enough to bite thru my thick animal handling gloves and run at speeds faster then I can catch them making attic and crawlspace raccoon removal that much harder and more time consuming.

We have also launch our new business named Glacier Insulation, a full service insulation company specializing in attic and crawlspace cleanouts as well as general contracting. We already have the best insulation crew in the area for Animal Evictor so it was no brainer to open up a company that provides these services and a natural progression for our business.

We are thankful for the opportunity's that have been provided to us this year  and the continued support from our local community thru countless referrals and recommendations from homeowners and other businesses alike. We removed our first round of raccoon kits from an attic a week and a half ago signaling the start of the 2015 raccoon birthing season. Since then we have received many calls regarding raccoons invading crawlspaces, attics, under sheds as well as additions of homes. Making sure your home is well fortified is the key to preventing these conflicts with raccoons and other animals.

 Often raccoons can go undetected under a home or shed for a long period of time but all that changes when there noisy offspring are born. Young Raccoons are very vocal and are often heard cackling and squealing under our structures alarming the people residing above and prompting a phone call to Animal Evictor for Raccoon removal, Also the females will spend more time awake creating their own noises as well do to the kits keeping her up during the day while frequently moving and feeding.

 It is not uncommon to see a Female Raccoon out during daylight hours this time of year because the females will need a break from the kids now and then and will sometimes go take a nap in a tree or secondary nesting location to get away from the hungry kits and get some much needed rest. Take extreme caution when encountering any raccoon wandering about in the daytime, the animal is likely agitated or sick when this behavior is displayed.

Over the past few weeks Animal Evictor has been slammed with starling related phone calls. The early onset of spring in the northwest was shortly followed by the early mating practices of those pesky Starlings. Starlings can be very bold and intrusive with there nesting habits and often take refuge in our attics and exhausts vents causing contamination, damaged vent screens and clogged bathroom or kitchen vent lines. Not to mention the disturbing noises, bad odors, and bird mites that often come along with a starlings nesting area. The condition of our soffit vent screens and placement of vent guards is key to preventing starling issues as well as sealing off connecting roofline gaps. Often construction company's will have there bottom dollar guide the decision making in what type of screening materials to use when installing the soffit screens on homes and will install cheep screens to the back sides of the soffit blocks that birds can peck thru instead of quality 1/4 inch galvanized hardware cloth. This allows a easy opportunity for Starlings to invade our attics. Another common misconception is that the louvers or "flaps" on the exhaust vents will keep critters out of the vent lines. Starlings and other birds can easily lift up the louvers and enter and exit these vent at will. A properly fit bird and rodent guard can be installed in minutes and can prevent costly damages and vent lines that are clogged with bird feces and nesting materials. If the vent is an unusual size or shape a custom cut and fit screen made of high quality materials should be attached to the home. In the case of starling making entry thru connecting roofline gaps the birds can be flushed from the space and the gap can then be immediately sealed with appropriate materials based upon the homes construction and location of the gap. Here it is, my first blog posting. Finally trying to get caught up to all of this new social media stuff and was advised to start a blog so here go's.. I'm a little old fashioned when it comes to modern technologies like smartphones, Facebook, twitter " still don't know what a tweet is", and all the other new techie things that are foreign to me. but I am learning rapidly. Getting prepared and excited for the spring rush. Cant wait for the first raccoon with kits call and the start of what we hope to be an epic year of trapping and repairs. This mild winter we are having should bring fourth a large number of babies in the spring. Make sure your vent screens are in good shape and you have a good solid crawl door in place to prevent an intrusion.
